This is the 2nd part of our mastermind episode, so make sure you go listen to part 1!
Changing your mindset doesn’t happen all at once. It requires time and continual effort to change our brains. But it is possible. How??
Our biggest tip for you is to find and hold onto your WHY. Your WHY is your motivation to keep going, your reasoning for doing what you do. With your WHY figured out and in the forefront of your mind, you can turn to it when times get tough.
What about specific mindset pitfalls?
Be gracious with your mistakes and flaws. The best thing you can do it take imperfect action. You have to start somewhere. You can’t improve if you’re sitting around always waiting to be perfect. But your best foot forward and take a chance on yourself!
You can almost always go back and change things you’ve done. But it has to be done first!
Our brains have evolved to protect us from danger, but that danger has changed. We can rewire our brains by recognizing that our physiological responses to fear and excitement are incredibly similar! So instead of being afraid, tell yourself you’re actually excited.
It also helps to embrace whatever is making you afraid. The more you face your fears, the less power they have over us.
Social media makes this one really common. Comparison is the thief of joy and creativity. Do your best to catch yourself in the moment of comparing yourself to someone else. Once you recognize when and where that happens, it’s easier to avoid situations where you’re compelled to compare.
Most importantly, count your blessings and recognize the great things you already have!
Are these your expectations, or someone else’s? Why do you have this expectation? Make sure you’re only setting expectations around the things you can control, and never around people or events outside of your control.
Worrying about what others think of you
This one is extremely tough. We all want people to like us, and it can be hurtful when we perceive that’s not the case. Often we assume things about what others think of us that aren’t even true! Make sure you are testing your assumptions and challenging them if needed.
Remember, not all opinions are created equally. Make sure you’re giving more weight to opinions from people that matter more to you.
This is all easier said than done, we know. But little by little, we can change our brains to see the world more positively. We are all a work in progress.
The only person you need to be better than is the person you were yesterday.
