Loneliness is a traveler’s challenge that can often lead nomads to return home and giving up on their travels altogether. According to a study, it is the number one reason that travelers return home and stop traveling.
This is where the conversation with brand strategist and copywriter, Jessica, comes in. Jessica, who is currently living in Liechtenstein, has been working and living internationally for almost two years. She has a digital business that focuses on helping busy solopreneurs get their storytelling into their branding and messaging.
Jessica’s journey into traveling started when she was in college and majored in history. She had no direction with it, but loved sitting in lecture halls, hearing the stories, and writing about them. After graduating, she continued bartending, but later in her 20s, she knew she had to do something more. She had friends who had taught abroad, and they planted the seed in her mind. However, she was too scared to embark on it by herself. Later on, she met someone and got engaged, and he was a teacher with family already teaching abroad. He applied for a job in the United Arab Emirates, and Jessica followed him there. She ended up teaching too, and that’s what took her overseas in 2011.
Loneliness can be a challenge for digital nomads and travelers. When you’re constantly on the move, it can be difficult to form meaningful connections with people. You may meet people along the way, but it’s not the same as having a support system of friends and family back home.
Coping with Loneliness
Coping with loneliness can be difficult, but it’s important to find ways to combat it. One way is to join groups or communities that share similar interests. This can be a great way to meet like-minded people and form friendships. Another way is to find ways to connect with people back home. This can be through social media, video calls, or even sending postcards.
